What are Managed Lanes?

Managed lanes are optional travel lanes, located on an interstate or toll road, that customers can choose to use when they want a more predictable travel time. Express Lanes and Thru Lanes are the most common types of managed lanes in Florida.

Types of Managed Lanes Tolls

Several different types of tolling methods are used on Florida Managed Lanes.

Dynamic Tolling
The toll rate will vary based on the volume of traffic in the managed lanes. The rate increases as traffic builds in the managed lanes and decreases as traffic reduces.

Static Tolling
The toll rate in the managed lanes is set at a specific amount that does not change. A static toll rate is not affected by managed lanes traffic volume or the time of day.

Time of Day Tolling

The toll rate will vary based on the time of day. Rates may be higher during peak travel periods and lower during non-peak periods.

General Toll

Applicable on toll facilities only. Customers pay only the general toll amount that is charged to users of the toll road. Customers will not be charged an additional toll to travel in the managed lanes.

Who Cannot Use Managed Lanes?

Vehicles with more than two axles (including those pulling trailers), as well as customers without a SunPass or another interoperable transponder, are NOT permitted.
